How I Quit Smoking and Lived (so far)

Today is Cinco de Mayo. It is also the 7th anniversary of the day I quit smoking.I didn't quit because it was Cinco de Mayo though - that's just silly. I quit when I quit and for the next couple years I struggled to remember the anniversary and then it finally dawned on me it was cinco de mayo, so now i can always remember. It took a few more years before I could remember the year I quit. 2004. It's nice to no longer have to go through old emails to figure it out.

So to quit, it was a piece of cake, or maybe not. I didn't know it at the time but I believe my life was on the line. I didn't get the message from the waking dream I had earlier - more on that later.

I got a real nasty chest cold that just would not go away, no matter what! I couldn't even start to talk without going into a horrible coughing fit, so bad I couldn't even get a breath in between coughs. One day I realized if I went a ½-hour to an hour (if I could manage it) without a cigarette, things improved a little. Hmm.

None Shall Pass

Monday, on my way home from bringing two of my sons home, the road I was traveling on got blocked when a camper in someone's yard burned. A man was brought to the hospital. Not sure how he is now.
I had driven by there 30 - 40 minutes before that. It is four houses down from a home that was destroyed by fire just before Christmas.
I couldn't get any closer at the time, but could see it the following day. The camper is completely destroyed. Maybe I'll get brave and stop for a photo one of these days.

The burned church, a year later.

Attaching the bottom half of the steeple. They're really making progress! I saw this early in
the day. It wouldn't surprise me if they got the top section of the steeple up today as well.

Day 365! Hope you've enjoyed.

Happy New Year. See the link at the top of the right column, to my 2010 Project 365.
Thanks to everyone who followed my blog this year, some commented in here, some in person.
In 2010 I will start off as a 365 but may change gears at some point and go with a Project 52 or something. Probably not, but we will see.
Hope to see you on the new site.

Fire - 3/12ish

Looks like we need a new outdoor fireplace. Who'd a thunk they would wear out?
Struggling to keep up to date lately. Been busy, not feeling well, and therefore have had a lack of enthusiasm...so the dates of the pictures are approximate these days.
