My son Jason has ID'd this as a Merganser. There were a few in the canal and I heard someone say they only show up there in the winter.

Gulls
On the way to the canal I stopped for a few minutes in Onset. I didn't even get out of the truck but took a few mediocre pictures out the windows.
Sparrow in the snow
Stopped at the canal by the railroad bridge this week for the first time in a long time. They had the area closed down for most or all of the summer to redo the parking lot. I can't wait to start going there again. This time was just a short visit because I didn't have much time, plus it was soooooo much colder near the water.
